|Vandals fall at Bakersfield|
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Idaho volleyball team couldn’t hang on after a first-set win over Bakersfield on Saturday night, dropping the final three sets in a 3-1 Western Athletic Conference loss to the Roadrunners.
Idaho win 25-23 to pull ahead in the match but Bakersfield took control of the match with back-to-back 25-17 wins. The Vandals and Roadrunners were tied 22-22 in the fourth set but Bakersfield took three of the final four points for the victory. Idaho drops to 13-9 and 6-4 in the WAC with the loss while Bakersfield improves to 15-9 overall and 7-3 in the league.
Idaho junior Alyssa Schultz led the Vandals with 12 kills and six blocks while hitting .381 in the match. Senior Taylor Wilkinson had nine blocks and added five kills for the Vandals, and sophomore Katelyn Peterson had 10 kills and 14 digs, her second double-double of the season. Ashley Christman and Ali Forde each added four kills for Idaho.
The Vandals out-blocked the Roadrunners 17-6, a season-high, but Idaho hit just .142 in the match, was aced 11 times from the service line and gave up a 69-60 deficit in digs.
Sophomore Jenna Ellis had a team-high 15 digs in the match, and freshman Terra Varney added eight. Sophomore Meredith Coba finished with 30 assists, five digs and four blocks.
The Vandals return to Moscow for their final home stand of the season when they host New Mexico State (Oct. 31), Texas-Pan American (Nov. 2) and Seattle U (Nov. 8).
