|VB begins final home stretch|
MOSCOW, Idaho -- The Idaho volleyball team returns to Moscow for its final home stretch of the season, as they it welcomes New Mexico State and Texas-Pan American to Memorial Gym this week and Seattle U next week.
The Vandals enter the week with a 13-9 overall record and a 6-4 mark in the Western Athletic Conference after splitting a pair of WAC road matches at Utah Valley and Bakersfield last week. While Idaho sits in fifth in the WAC standings, the Vandals have the potential to move up significantly with five teams within two games of first-place NM State with three weeks remaining in the regular season. Idaho has won 12 consecutive sets at home and is 4-1 in Memorial Gym in 2013.
Idaho middle blocker Alyssa Schultz leads the league with a .367 hitting percentage while setter Meredith Coba’s 10.01 assists per set are also a league-best. The Vandals own the WAC’s best hitting percentage at .237 as a team.
New Mexico State and Idaho square off on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. The Aggies comes to Moscow having won back-to-back matches to regain the top spot in the WAC after a pair of losses the previous week dropped them to third in the conference. NM State, the WAC preseason favorite and defending tournament champion, is 8-2 in the WAC and 13-10 overall. The Aggies beat Idaho 3-0 in Las Cruces, N.M., earlier this season and own a 17-14 lead in the all-time series.
Idaho and UTPA will play at 7 p.m. on Nov. 2 in Memorial Gym. The Broncs are 1-9 in their first WAC season and 11-15 overall. UTPA has lost four consecutive matches entering the week. Idaho beat the Broncs 3-0 in the only other meeting between the two programs in Edinburg, Texas on Oct. 3.
