Baran Earns Academic Honor

MOSCOW, Idaho—Junior midfielder Katie Baran was named to the Capitol One Academic All-District Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Wednesday. Idaho is in District 7 with schools from Colo., Idaho, Kan., Mont., Neb., N.M., Okla., Texas and Wyoming. 

Baran, a biology major, holds a 3.88 GPA and leads Idaho in points with seven points in 17 starts this season. Baran has shares the team lead in assists with three. In Idaho soccer history, six players have earned double-digit career assists, Baran currently sits tied for fourth in the program’s history with 13 career assists and is sixth in the Idaho record books with 31 career points. According to, Baran is rated as the fifth-best player in the WAC in the website’s midseason player rankings.

Baran was voted to the 2013 Preseason All-WAC team. In 2012 she played in all 21 games, totaling 16 points. Academically she has twice been on the Dean’s List and has been a two-time WAC All-Academic selection and was a 2013 Avista Scholar Athlete.

The Vandals will close out the regular season with two games this weekend against the regular season Western Athletic Conference champions, Seattle U. The Vandals will start on the road at Seattle on Friday before welcoming the Redhawks to Guy Wicks Field on Sunday.
