|Vandals face ISU in Boise|
MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho men’s basketball team will face a Big Sky Conference opponent for the third consecutive game when it takes on Idaho State on Dec. 20 in Boise’s CenturyLink Arena at 6 p.m. (PT).
The Vandals enter the game with a 5-6 overall record on the season after a 76-75 win at Portland State in their last outing. The Bengals are 3-4 entering the game, with two of those wins over non-Division I opponents (Evergreen State, Carroll College) and three losses against Pac-12 competition (Arizona State, Utah, Washington). Idaho owns a 60-41 advantage in the all-time series against its former and future Big Sky rival. The Vandals will rejoin the league beginning with the 2014-15 season.
Idaho junior Connor Hill is coming off a stellar week, as he earned Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career after averaging 22.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.5 made 3-pointers per game against Montana and Portland State last week. Hill now has 163 career 3-pointers, and is closing in on Idaho’s career record of 168 held by Orlando Lightfoot since 1994. Idaho senior Stephen Madison leads the team with 15.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, while senior Glen Dean adds 12.7 points and 2.0 assists per game for the Vandals.
Idaho State is led by 15.9 points and 4.8 assists per game from Tomas Sanchez, while Chris Hansen adds 15.0 points and 3.6 boards per game. The Bengals shoot 41.0 percent from 3-point range, the 23rd best clip in NCAA Division I, while knocking down 5.9 3s per game.
Idaho was victorious the last time the two teams met, as the Vandals took a 75-69 win in Pocatello on Feb. 23, 2013 in a BracketBuster matchup. The Vandals erased a 29-28 halftime deficit in the win, and got 22 points from Hill and a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double from then-senior Kyle Barone.
Friday’s game will be streamed live online on VandalXTRA, and Chris King will bring the live play-by-play action on the Vandal Radio Network.
The Vandals wrap up their stretch of nine out of 10 games away from Moscow when they visit CSU Northridge on Dec. 22. Idaho returns home to host Montana on Dec. 28 in the Cowan Spectrum in their last contest before WAC play begins.
