|Idaho visits WAC favorite NMSU|
MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho men’s basketball team wraps up the weekend at preseason Western Athletic Conference favorite New Mexico State on Saturday for a 5 p.m. (PT) tip off in a regionally televised game on ROOT Sports.
The Vandals are coming off an 86-85 double-overtime victory at Texas-Pan American, capped by freshman Perrion Callandret’s buzzer-beater with 0.5 seconds left in the second overtime. That win snapped a four-game slump for the Vandals, who enter Saturday’s contest at 7-10 overall and 1-2 in the WAC.
New Mexico State endured a four-game losing streak of its own earlier this season, but has since won six consecutive games to get to 13-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play. WAC Preseason Player of the Year Daniel Mullings leads the Aggies with 16.4 points per game and the Aggies are WAC leaders in field goal percentage (48.4), scoring offense (78.1), field goal percentage defense (40.4), scoring margin (+9.1) and blocked shots (5.72).
The Aggies own a 23-4 all-time lead in the series over Idaho, and won three games from the Vandals last season. Before eliminating Idaho in the WAC quarterfinals last season, the Aggies beat Idaho by one point in Moscow and two points in Las Cruces, N.M., in regular season matchups.
Mark Neely will be on the call for ROOT Sports on Saturday with Marty Fletcher handling color commentary. The Vandals will return home for five of their next six games after Saturday’s contest, beginning Jan. 16 against Utah Valley.
