MOSCOW, Idaho—The University of Idaho women’s basketball team, ridding a four-game winning streak, will look to improve to 5-0 in conference play for the first time since the 1981-82 season. Idaho will face the Utah Valley Wolverines on Thursday and the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners on Saturday.

Idaho (11-7, 4-0 WAC) is off to its best conference start since starting 4-0 in 2003-04. Much of that is attributed to the high scoring numbers the Silver and Gold have produced in Western Athletic Conference play. Idaho leads the WAC, scoring 82.0 points per game while allowing only 55.5.

Idaho held the height advantage in its last two games against undersized Texas-Pan American and New Mexico State. Utah Valley will offer a bit of a different look when the Vandals take the court at the UCCU Center.

“Utah Valley is big inside,” head coach Jon Newlee commented. “They have a 6’5’’ kid [Sam Loggins] and a couple of 6’1’’ players. They are athletic and they play extremely well at home. They are extremely well coached and I know it is going to be a physical game there.”

Thursday’s game marks the third meeting between the two schools, and the second in Orem. Idaho leads the series, 2-0. The last meeting took place on Dec. 8, 2005. The Vandals left Orem with a 99-70 win. Leilani Mitchell scored a game-high 30 points and added nine assists.

UVU (3-12, 0-2 WAC) is coming off an 88-51 loss to Grand Canyon. The Wolverines suffered their seventh consecutive road defeat of the season. Rhaiah Spooner-Knight was the only player on the Wolverines’ roster to post a double-digit scoring day.

Tom Purvis will have the call on the radio (840 AM/Vandal Xtra) starting a 5:45 p.m. PT. Opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
