Looking Forward:
Idaho hosts its first home meets of the 2014 season this weekend with the Idaho Collegiate on Friday and the Idaho Open on Saturday. Events begin Friday at 11 a.m. (PT) and kick off at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Vandals competed in last week’s opener at the WSU Open with a small squad of runners, this weekend several individuals will make their season debuts.

Historically Speaking:
This is the second year the Vandals will host the Idaho Collegiate. Last year, the team totaled up nine individual wins and an NCAA top-10 time. Current senior Karlene Hurrel tallied two wins in the 60m and 200m while sophomore teammate Jerrica Hauck cleared a career-best mark in the pole vault to win the event. On the men’s side, sophomore Drew Thompson notched a career-best in the 60m hurdles to win the even while junior Matt Sullivan won the pole vault and senior Kyle Rothwell hit the winning mark in the shot put. Last time Idaho hosted the Idaho Open two years ago, the team tailed two individual victories and multiple career-best marks.

A Quick Recap:
The Idaho men led the way at the WSU Open last weekend to kick off the 2014 indoor season. Idaho newcomer Emmanuel Panchol produced strong marks with an individual victory in the triple jump and a second-place finish in the high jump. While senior teammate Andrew Bloom took first in the 400m, junior Matt Sullivan earned an individual victory in the pole vault and senior Andrey Levkiv took the first-place spot in the shot put with a career-best mark.
