|Bendeck captures third honor|
DENVER – Jose Bendeck has stepped off the tennis court as a winner in each of his four matches in the young season, and the Idaho senior was recognized as the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Bendeck, a native of Barranquilla, Colombia, went a perfect 4-0 on the week with a pair of singles wins and a pair of doubles wins, helping Idaho go 2-0 on the weekend. Bendeck played at the No. 1 spot in three of those four matches, with a 6-2 doubles win over Seattle U, a 6-4 doubles win over EWU and a three-set win at the top singles spot over Eastern Washington’s Robert Dula. In his No. 2 singles match, Bendeck won in straight sets, including a 6-0 win in the first set, defeating Seattle U’s Will Topp.
Bendeck continues a stellar senior season. He was honored twice as WAC Player of the Month during the fall, and reached the National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in doubles after teaming up with Cristobal Ramos Salazar to win the ITA Mountain Region doubles draw.
“Jose has continued his very strong senior year and it is great to see him recognized for his performance last weekend,” Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said.
The Vandals return to action this weekend when they face Fresno State and Portland State.
