DALLAS, Texas—The University of Idaho women’s basketball team invades the UTPA Fieldhouse on Saturday, looking for its 10th win in a row. The Vandals are in the midst of a historic stretch that has not been matched since the 1985-86 season.

Idaho (16-7, 9-0 WAC) moved to 9-0 in conference play for the first time since the 1981-82 season, with its 77-65 win at New Mexico State on Thursday. They are the first Western Athletic Conference team to reach the 9-0 mark since Fresno State in 2011-12 (11-0). 10 consecutive wins would match the WNIT Championship season of 1985-86 when the Vandals started out 10-0.

UTPA (11-11, 5-4 WAC) rallied back from a 14-point deficit to take the lead late in regulation, but ultimately fell to the defending Western Athletic Conference champion Seattle University Redhawks 75-68 in overtime on Thursday at the UTPA Fieldhouse. Freshman Shawnte’ Goff led the Broncs with 17 points, three rebounds, five assists and one block.

“They [UTPA] played us extremely close last game,” head coach Jon Newlee stated. “I think their athleticism bothered us at home. They shot the ball well from three. I remember they had eight threes in the first half. We are going to have to get out on the three-point shooters. They play extremely well at home as most teams do in the WAC. We are going to have to bring it when the ball goes up.”

Last time out, Idaho scored 76 points to defeat NMSU by 11 points. Stacey Barr posted a career-high 29 points, helping the Idaho women to a 76-65 victory.  She added 11 rebounds to notch her sixth double-double of the season.

Idaho, due to flight delays, practiced at Southern Methodist University on Friday and will spend the night in Dallas. The team will arrive in Edinburg and take on the Broncs Saturday evening with a 5 p.m. PT scheduled tip.
