TUCSON, Ariz. – The Idaho men’s tennis team won the first set in three out of six singles matches against Arizona on Saturday, but was unable to convert those into match wins as the Wildcats topped the Vandals 7-0.

Cristobal Ramos Salazar, Cesar Torres and Andrew Zedde each won their first set at Nos. 4, 5 and 6  singles before eventually falling in three sets. Odon Barta, Jose Bendeck and Artemiy Nikitin suffered straight-set defeats in the top three singles positions, although Bendeck pushed Arizona’s Kieren Thompson to the brink, falling 6-5 (9-7), 6-4. Arizona got wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn the doubles point.

The Vandals fall to 3-4 on the season with the loss. Idaho resumes play at Western Athletic Conference foe New Mexico State on Sunday at 12 p.m. (PT).
