DENVER – Idaho senior women’s tennis player Almudena Sanz earned Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for the for the first time this season, becoming the third Vandal woman to receive the recognition this season.

Sanz, a senior from Oviedo, Spain, went 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles, and was serving for match point in her third doubles match when the match was decided, as the Vandals went 2-1 in the week with a pair of 7-0 victories over Sacred Heart and Hawai’i Pacific. She won all three of her No. 2 singles matches in straight sets, and won both of her doubles matches 8-3. She was leading at No. 1 doubles, 7-2, when Hawai’i clinched the team victory. Sanz has not lost a doubles match since the season opener on Jan. 17, improving to 11-1, and is 9-3 in singles this season, all at the top two spots.
