Art Hoomiratana
Position: Associate Head Coach

Art Hoomiratana joined the Idaho men’s and women’s tennis programs as volunteer assistant coach ahead of the 2013-14 season, and became associate head coach of the men’s and women’s programs in the spring of 2014. Hoomiratana will work as associate head coach of the men’s program only beginning in the fall of 2014.

In 2013-14, Hoomiratana helped both Vandal teams win Western Athletic Conference championships and reach the NCAA tournament. Both teams boasted the WAC Player of the Year, with Victoria Lozano taking home the honor on the women’s side and Jose Bendeck earning the recognition for the men. The Vandal women achieved a program-best No. 51 national rank in the spring of 2014 and finished with a 19-6 record.

Prior to coming to Idaho, Hoomiratana spent the 2012-2013 tennis season as the volunteer assistant coach for the men's tennis team at Cornell University where he was part of the coaching staff that helped the team reach an all-time program high of No. 23 in the national rankings.  

As a mental skills specialist, Hoomiratana has completed numerous hours as a sport psychology consultant in training. He spent the summer of 2013 in Hilton Head, South Carolina working at the Ivan Lendl International Tennis Academy and International Junior Golf Academy as a mental training specialist and also co-teaches the Applied Sport Psychology and Mental Training classes at Idaho.  In addition to his coaching and teaching duties, he consults with a number of teams and individual athletes on campus for mental skills training.  

Prior to coaching tennis, Hoomiratana spent eight years coaching collegiate football. His last stop was at Ithaca College, where as the running backs coach he was responsible for coaching the school's seventh-best single season rushing performer.  Prior to Ithaca, he spent seven years in the junior college ranks as a quarterback and wide receivers coach where he has assisted in the development of several players who moved on to the Division I and professional levels.  

Hoomiratana has earned a B.A. in History from UCLA, a J.D. from the University of Oregon, and a M.S. in Kinesiology from Georgia Southern University. He is currently finishing his thesis for a second M.S. in Exercise and Sport Sciences (Sport Psychology) from Ithaca College. Currently, he is a 2nd year Sport Psychology Ph.D. student at the University of Idaho studying under Dr. Damon Burton.
