|Vandals downed by Pilots|
SPOKANE, Wash. – The No. 70 Idaho women’s tennis team fell 4-2 in a highly contested battle against the University of Portland on Sunday.
The Vandals fall to 11-3 on the season with the loss.
“This was a very competitive match that went down to the wire,” Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. “It’s a match that hopefully gets us ready for next weekend. After the two weeks off we were a little rusty at spots, but we pushed a very good team and as long as we grow from this we’ll be ready to continue the strong year that we’ve been having.”
Idaho won the doubles point with victories at all three doubles positions. Victoria Lozano and Almudena Sanz won 8-5 at No. 1, Galina Bykova and Rita Bermudez won 8-6 at No. 2 and Sophie Vickers and Belen Barcenilla won 8-1 at No. 3.
Idaho’s Beatriz Flores won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 6 singles, but Portland took singles victories at Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4 to take the 4-2 win.
The Vandals continue play at Northern Arizona on Mar. 30 and at Grand Canyon on Mar. 31.
