|Vandal women win fifth straight|
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Idaho women’s tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches with a 6-1 win over Arkansas State on Saturday.
The Vandals improve to 16-3 on the season with the win, and wrap up the weekend at Western Athletic Conference foe New Mexico State on Sunday in Las Cruces, N.M., the site of the WAC Championships Apr. 25-27.
“This was a solid day of competing by the team,” Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. “We talked about how the conference tournament can be three days of matches in Las Cruces and how we need to be able to string several strong matches together for a chance at a championship, so this was step two in our preparation and tomorrow we will see how we show up on day three against a tough New Mexico State team and their home crowd.”
The Red Wolves won tight singles matches at the top two spots over Idaho’s Victoria Lozano and Almudena Sanz,, but Idaho won all three doubles matches and took straight-set wins in the bottom four singles matches for the 5-2 win.
