|NM State edges Vandals|
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Idaho women’s tennis team lost for the first time since March 23 on Sunday when New Mexico State took a 4-3 win in Las Cruces, M.M.
Idaho won the doubles point with wins at all three doubles positions, but the Aggies took control of the match with wins at four of the six singles spots.
“Today’s match was a match that went down to the wire in several singles spots,” Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. “It could have gone either way but New Mexico State competed great and came out with a tight win.”
Idaho got singles victories from Victoria Lozano at No. 1 and Galina Bykova at No. 3.
The Vandals fall to 15-4 on the season with the loss, their first since Mar. 23.
The Vandals have two regular season matches remaining before returning to Las Cruces for the Western Athletic Conference championships Apr. 25-27.
“It’s rare that you get a second shots at most things, but we’re hoping to get another shot in a couple weeks on the same courts, and probably a bigger crowd,” Beaman said. “We’re hoping for the chance to show what we’ve learned. Our goal all year has been to win the conference championship. This weekend was preparation for that and hopefully we learn from today’s loss and continue on as a strong team.”
