The Idaho men’s and women’s cross country teams hit the track in Spokane, Wash. today for the Clash of the Inland Northwest meet. Both teams finished in the top 5 against teams from all around the northwest, including Gonzaga, Washington State and LCSC.

“It went very well,” said Coach Tim Cawley. “Its fun to watch them go out and compete instead of just practicing.”

The men’s team started the season off strong today by placing three runners in the top 20 out of the field of 88. Senior runner Cody Helbling lead the vandals by placing 13th with a time of 18:28. Fellow teammates Tim Delcourt and Mickey Day finished 16th and 20th, respectively.

The women’s team did well also with freshman runner Sierra Speiker placing fourth with a time of 13:59.70. The Vandals placed three other runners in the top 30 out of 102, including junior Alex Sciocchetti (13th) and sophomore Alex Siemens (21st).

“We’re still getting familiar with our strengths and weaknesses, but overall they executed very well today,” Cawley said.
