Full Time Staff

  Barrie Steele, MS, LAT, ATC - Director of Athletic Training Services

 

Barrie joined the University of Idaho staff as the Head Athletic Trainer in 1986. Barrie graduated from Washington State University, where he worked prior to joining the Vandals, in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education.  He earned his Master of Science in Physical Education from the UI.. 

 

In addition to overseeing all aspects of the Athletic Training Room, Barrie oversees the Strength and Conditioning staff and the Equipment Room staff.  Barrie has served the Athletic Training profession in many capacities, including on the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Directors, NATA BOD liaison to JRC-AT/CAATE, president of the Northwest Athletic Trainers' Association, and liaison to the Idaho Board of Medicine; State Board of Athletic Trainers.  He was honored by the NATA in 2010 as a "Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer."  In 2011 Barrie was inducted into the NATA Hall of Fame by his peers for his tireless dedication to the profession of Athletic Training

 

He and his wife, Sue, reside in Moscow and have two children - Barbara and Ross.  Barrie is a native of Pasco, WA.


Megan Shifflett, MS, LAT, ATC - Assistant Athletic Trainer

 

Megan joined the full time staff in the summer of 2011.  Her primary responsibilities include overseeing medical coverage for the women's soccer team and men's and women's track and field.  She had previously been a graduate assistant athletic trainer (2008-2010) at the UI.  She returns after working as the Head Athletic Trainer of Norfolk High School in Norfolk, NE. 

 

Megan graduated from the University of Wyoming (Laramie) 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology & Health/Athletic Training.  She earned her Master of Science Degree in Sport and Recreation Management from the UI in 2010. 

 

Megan is a native of Laramie, WY.

Ryan "Toby" van Amerongen, MA, LAT, ATC - Assistant Athletic Trainer

Toby joined the UI full-time staff in the fall of 2012 after a 5 year stint at the University of Montana.  His responsibilities are men's basketball, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's golf.

Toby graduated from the University of Illinois (Chicago) with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.  While at UIC Toby competed for the Mens Gymnastics team and was a  four year letter winner.  In 2004 he earned his Master of Arts Degree in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Technological University. 

Toby was born and raised in Seattle, WA.

 

Graduate Assistants

 

Jaimie Hoskins, LAT, ATC - Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer

 

Jaimie begins her second year at UI overseeing medical coverage for men's and women's cross country and track and field.  She graduated in 2011 from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Movement Science.

 

She is a native of Tremonton, UT.

Matthew Boyne, LATP - Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer 

Matthew is a first year graduate assistant athletic trainer from Benedictine College in Atchison, KS.  He graduated with a Bachelor in Art in Athletic Training.  His primary responsiblity will be football.

Matthew is originally from Sapulpa, OK.  He enjoys playing basketball and watching movies.

Jessica Hoyt, LAT, ATC - Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer 

Jessica is a first year graduate assistant athletic trainer from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM.  She graduated with a Bachelor in Science in Athletic Training.  Her primary responsiblity will be volleyball.

Jessica is originally from Tulsa, OK.  She enjoys drawing and being outdoors.

Britni Racus - LAT, ATC - Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer 

Britni is a first year graduate assistant athletic trainer from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV.  She graduated with a Bachelor in Science in Athletic Training.  Her primary responsiblity will be swimming and diving.

Jessica is originally from Kent, WA.  She enjoys cooking and baking.

Michael Rice - EMT-B, LAT, ATC - Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer 

Michaell is a first year graduate assistant athletic trainer from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC.  He graduated with a Bachelor in Science in Athletic Training.  His primary responsiblity will be women's basketball.

Michael is originally from Charleston, SC.  He enjoys hiking and staying active.

Margaret was employed at the UI from 1991-2010.  She began work in the athletic department in 2011 after working for the Emergency Medical Services Bureau in Boise, ID

ATEP Faculty

 

Alan Nasypany, EdD, LAT, ATC, CSCS - Program Director/Clinical Coordinator

Dr. Nasypany has been employed at the UI since the fall of 2007.  Prior to being hired at Idaho he was an assistant professor at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA.  At Shenandoah he also had multiple sport coverage opportunities including being the head football athletic trainer in 2006.  He has also had the opportunity to work in both the clinic and high school settings.  His many research interests include clinical education, teacher supervision, and chronic back pain.

 

Dr. Nasypany received his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine from Wingate University, his Master of Education in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from Frostburg State University, and his Doctor of Education in Physical Education Teacher Education from West Virginia University.

 

He and his wife, Emma Grindley, reside in Moscow with three dogs and a cat.  Alan is originally from NY.

 

 

Jeff Seegmiller, EdD, LAT, ATC - Assistant Professor

Dr. Seegmiller joined the HPERD and WWAMI programs in the fall of 2007 with experience in athletic training, biomechanics, and human anatomy. 

 

Dr. Seegmiller has a BS in Athletic Training from Brigham Young University, and a MS in Biomechanics/Athletic Training from Illinois State University, and a Doctor of Education in Education from Illinois State University.  His professional experience includes an orthopaedic clinic, the Washington Redskins Professional Football team, and as the Head Athletic Trainer/Clinical Coordinator at West Texas A&M University, and four years as the graduate program coordinator at Ohio University.

 

He and his wife, Jennifer, have six children, Trevor, Lindsey, Tyler, Evan, Nathan, and Jared, and reside in Moscow.  He is originally from Salt Lake City, UT.
