DENVER - The Western Athletic Conference has announced women's soccer players of the week for the week of Aug. 31-Sept.6 and Idaho's Liz Boyden has been selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Boyden, a sophomore from Spokane, Wash. (Ferris HS), earned her first career WAC weekly honor after helping lead the Vandals to a 2-0 record over the weekend at the Governor's Cup. She tallied six saves over the weekend and allowed just one goal. She earned her third career shutout on Sunday, when she held Montana out of the net in a 1-0 win.
Boyden won back-to-back games for the first time in her career and helped Idaho achieve the fifth three-game win streak in school history and the first since 2001. She also helped Idaho go 2-0 at the Governor's Cup for the first time since the tournament's inception in 1998.
Boyden's honor is the third by a Vandal since joining the WAC. Senior Anna Sandman was twice honored as defensive player of the week during the 2007 season.
The Vandal soccer team will look to keep its momentum going this weekend, as Idaho heads back down to Boise for the Holiday Inn Classic, where it will face Northern Colorado and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
