|Men's Tennis Makes History|
MOSCOW - The turn around of the University of Idaho tennis programs under Director of Tennis Jeff Beaman reached another milestone as the men's team received their highest ranking in program history on Tuesday.
The Vandals are ranked No. 63 in the latest ITA rankings, the team's previous best being ranked No. 68. Idaho is12-4 on the season and boasts victories over No. 74 UNLV and No. 59 New Mexico State.
"This is a good achievement for our men's program," Beaman said. "One of my publicly stated goals when I took over the program was to have Idaho tennis in the national rankings within 4 years and this has happened."
Idaho has won six straight matches and are one of five WAC teams in the ITA rankings.
"This achievement is not only a great reflection on our current players, but all the players, assistant coaches, supporters and administrators that have been a part of this re-building process," Beaman said. "To go from 2-18 the year before I took over the program to nationally ranked and 12-4 half way thru our current season is a huge step in reaching our long term goal of winning the WAC conference and competing as a team in the NCAA championships."
The Vandal women have been in fine form as well winning ten matches in a row.
"I feel the women's team should also achieve the goal of being nationally ranked this season, as they are 10-1 on the year and just starting to hit their stride with doubles pairings and getting healthy," Beaman said.
Idaho tennis received another honor on Tuesday as Lachlan Reed and Gabriela Niculescu were named WAC player of the week for Feb. 22-28.
