DENVER - The Western Athletic Conference honored two Idaho track and field athletes on Tuesday with Verizon Wireless Track and Field Athlete of the Week accolades for the week of March 29-April 4.

Junior Paul Dittmer was awarded the Men's Track Athlete of the Week award, while junior Ulrike Hartz earned WAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Dittmer (Hanstedt, Germany/Gymnasium Winsen) finished fourth in the men's 110m hurdles at the Texas Relays with a time of 13.87, which is the second-fastest time of his career and the fastest by a WAC athlete this year. The race moved him to sixth in the West Region and 10th in the NCAA in the event.

Hartz (Fürth, Germany/Martin Luther Universität Halle-Wittenberg) took second in the women's 'B' section of the javelin throw on Saturday with a toss of 157-4 (47.96m), which improves on her standing of second all-time at Idaho. The throw is the best by a WAC athlete this year and ranks 21st nationally.

Dittmer's honor is the fifth of his career, while Hartz earns the honor for the first time in her career. Their awards give Idaho three Athlete of the Week honors so far in the 2010 outdoor season.

The Idaho men and women will be in action this weekend in Spokane at the WAR III Regional Dual, hosted by Community Colleges of Spokane. The meet pits eight Washington schools against eight schools from Idaho, Montana and Oregon in a "Washington vs. The World" dual scoring meet.
