PULLMAN, Wash. - The Idaho volleyball team wrapped up its spring season Saturday against Washington State, but dropped three sets to the Cougars in the spring finale.

The spring season gave Buchanan and the team an opportunity to improve, with six weeks of practice and four competition dates, with three tournaments and Saturday's scrimmage.

"We're ahead of where we started," Idaho coach Debbie Buchanan said of the team's progress this spring. "Today was a little unfortunate the way we competed, but if you look at the overall spring and the things I know that we can do, our passing has gotten better, we're leaning to be better on the defensive side. If they commit to putting in the time over the summer, I think we're going to be ready to go once fall gets going."

Eleven returnees from 2011 and transfer Taylor Wilkenson, who joined the team in January, went through the spring season. Those 12 players will be joined by four newcomers when the team reports for fall camp in August.
