|Volleyball adds two signees|
MOSCOW -- Idaho volleyball coach Debbie Buchanan signed two high school seniors to Nation Letters of Intent to play at Idaho starting in the fall of 2013 during the early signing period.
Samantha Rouleau of Eugene, Ore., and Torrin Crawford of Walla Walla, Wash., will join the Vandals next season. Rouleau is a 5-foot-6 defensive specialist/setter, and Crawford is a 6-foot-1 middle blocker.
"Both of these kids have great attitudes, they're competitive," Buchanan said of the signees. "We had the opportunity to have them both at camp and we liked how they fit in. They've very coachable and willing to learn, and those are the types of kids you want in your program."
Rouleau will come to Idaho from Sheldon High School in Eugene, Ore., where she competes in volleyball and golf. She was a four-time all-league selection in volleyball and a two-time team captain. She also earned 6A MVP honors and was a second-team all-state selection. Rouleau played club volleyball Webfoot for seven seasons and Boss for one season. She is enrolled in the honors program at Sheldon High.
"Sammy is a ball control kid," Buchanan said. "She can play in the back row as a defensive player and fill in to our setting position if we need her to, so she can do a couple different things."
Crawford was voted team MVP at Walla Walla High School three consecutive seasons in both volleyball and basketball, and was team captain and all-conference honoree multiple times in both sports. Crawford played club volleyball for the Columbia Juniors for two years. Crawford is also an honor roll student with a 3.73 GPA.
"She's fast, she can move laterally, she's got good eyes, she has the right mentality for a middle," Buchanan said of Crawford. "The biggest thing for us is we need to get her stronger so she can maintain and play at our level, but she definitely has the ability to do it."
Six seniors finished their Idaho careers after the 2012 season.
