Choi climbs to 25th

IRVINE, Calif. - University of Idaho junior Rachel Choi had the top Vandal finish with a tie for 25th Tuesday as Idaho wound up ninth at the UC Irvine Invitational presented by Kia.

"We definitely showed improvement today," coach Lisa Johnson said after the Vandals' trimmed seven strokes off their best Monday round. "I saw players executing shots from difficult positions.

"We putted much better but we still have a lot of short-game work to do."

In their first tournament of the spring, Idaho had rounds of 317-320-310 to finish at 947, well off Gonzaga's winning pace but just six strokes out of seventh.

Choi had rounds of 80-76-78 to finish at 234 in the tie for 25th with freshman Kristin Strankman tied for 320th at 236 and sophomore Leilanie Kim tied for 34th at 237. At 238 and tied for 37th was freshman Cassie McKinley with sophomore Kaitlyn Oster tied for 40th at 239. Senior Allyssa Nilsson 64th at 258.
