LAS VEGAS – Idaho men’s tennis players Artemiy Nikitin and Jose Bendeck have reached the round of 16 at the ITA Mountain Regional tournament with singles victories on Thursday.

Bendeck won 6-4, 6-2 over Nevada’s Andrew Poustie while Nikitin defeated New Mexico State’s Germain Degardin 6-3, 6-3 to advance.

“It was another positive day,” Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. “Jose and Artemiy continue to play at a very high level and tomorrow will be a very big day for them with two singles matches and two doubles matches if they keep winning.”

The two have also reached the final 16 in the doubles draw as Bendeck and teammate Cristobal Ramos Salazar will face a Nevada pairing while Nikitin and Odon Barta will face a duo from BYU on Friday, in addition to singles matches.

“I was very impressed with how our guys came out in doubles today and were able to carry the momentum they’ve built in this tournament so far against tough opponents,” Beaman added.
