SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Idaho senior Hannah Kiser placed 16th overall to lead the Vandals at the NCCA West Region Cross Country Championships on Friday at the Haggin Oaks Golf Course.

Kiser ran a 20:04 over the course to pace the Idaho women at the meet to a 19th-place finish out of 32 teams.  Finishing in the top-25 puts Kiser in the position to be considered for an individual selection to the NCAA Championships, which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, at Terre Haute, Ind.

“We weren’t sure if Hannah was going to run right up until the start of the race,” Idaho director of track and field/cross country Wayne Phipps said. “Considering that, she ran an awesome race.”

Freshman Nicholas Boersma led the men’s team as he took 107th out of 187 runners on the men’s 10K course with a time of 32:03. Sophomore Santos Vargas was Idaho’s second finisher with a time of 33:06 followed by freshman Nathan Stark with a time of 34:31.

Senior Holly Stanton Browning was the second finisher on the women’s side with a 90th overall placing and a time of 21:17. Sophomore Abby Larson took 126th overall in 21:45, senior Emily Paradis was 143rd in 21:58 and sophomore’ Alex Siemens wrapped up the team score with a time of 22:00 and 144th overall.

Kiser must now wait until Sunday’s championships selection to find out if her season continues. She’s hoping to make her second appearance at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Kiser last appeared at the NCAA championships as a sophomore where she placed 85th overall.
