MOSCOW, Idaho—The University of Idaho women’s basketball team looks to improve to 4-0 in Western Athletic Conference play on Saturday when they host rival New Mexico State.

The Vandals are off to their best start in conference play since the 2003-04 season. Idaho has won the last three contests, averaging 83.0 points per game during the winning streak. In the past three games Idaho has put together a 50.0 percent field goal percentage and shot 35.1 percent from beyond the three-point line.

“New Mexico State is extremely athletic at every spot,” head coach Jon Newlee said. “[Danesia] Williamson their guard is playing at an extremely high level right now, scoring a lot of points per game. They are all dangerous. They can shoot the three. They do a great job of running their offense and getting to the rim. We are going to have to be able to contain that dribble drive offense that they are running.”

The Aggies are off to a 1-1 start in WAC play, coming off a 61-51 loss to Seattle U. Sophomore Abby Scott and freshman Tyler Ellis led defensively, while junior Danesia Williamson led the team with 12 points. The Aggies shot 31.9 percent as a team and allowed SU to shoot 40.7 percent. As a team, NM State was out-rebounded 51-35.

Idaho holds a 21-9 series advantage over NMSU. In the last meeting between the two schools, Ali Forde scored a career-high 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting as the Vandals defeated New Mexico State, 72-53. Idaho is 12-2 all-time against the Aggies in Moscow.

Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. PT. Saturday’s game marks the annual Readers as Leaders game for the Vandals. Kids wearing their Readers as Leaders shirts earn free admission and accompanying adults are just $5. Ali Forde will stick around post-game to sign autographs.
