|Women's tennis gets 10th win|
HONOLULU, Hawai`i – The No. 51 Idaho women’s tennis team easily picked up its 10th consecutive win Thursday, beating Sacred Heart 7-0 in Honolulu, Hawai`i.
The Vandals won all three doubles matches by an 8-3 score then won in straight sets at the top five singles matches. Only Beaty Flores, who won 6-2, 5-7, 1-0(10-3) needed a tiebreak for the Vandals in the 7-0 win. It’s Idaho second consecutive 7-0 victory and third of the season. The Vandals also have a 5-0 win earlier this year. Idaho improves to 10-1 on the season with the victory.
“This was a very good match for the girls to get prepared for two tough upcoming matches,” Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said as the Vandals face Hawai`i Pacific on Friday and Hawai`i on Saturday. “Sacred Heart competed really well and really pushed us. They gave us a good, challenging match, helping us get used to the conditions with the sun, wind and humidity, and different elevation.”
Beaman also noted the strong play of Victoria Lozano at the No. 1 singles spot and Galina Bykova at No. 3.
“Vicky was impressive in the way she developed her attacking game in slow conditions, pulling out a 6-3, 6-3 win against a very scrappy competitor,” he said. “Galina continued to be very impressive winning 6-2, 6-2 and taking care of business in convincing fashion.”
