The University of Idaho women's golf team had a final-round 312 to finish in 12th at the San Diego State The Farms Invitational.

Idaho finished with a 54-hole 931 with Kaitlyn Oster leading the way with a nine-over 225, which played her in a tie for 29th. Leilanie Kim had the best closing round for the Vandals with a three-over 75, which gave her a 232 for the tournament and a tie for 49th. Also for Idaho, Kristin Strankman tied for 58th with a 235, Rachel Choi tied for 70th with a 239 and Cassie McKinley tied for 81st with a 243.

"Everyone on the team had a stretch of 15 or 16 holes when they played really well," coach Lisa Johnson said, "then we'd have two or three holes where we'd made doubles or triples."

During the three-day tournament, the Vandals faced some of the top individuals and elite teams in the nation over what Johnson said is the most difficult course they will face this year. As Idaho heads into the final tournaments of the season, that level of competition can be a boost.

"Our overall games looked more polished; we're playing at a higher level," Johnson said of the team's spring progression.

Led by medalist Karen Chung, USC won the event with a three-under 861. UCLA and Stanford tied for second at even-par 864. Arizona State was 17 strokes back in fourth.
