LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The University of Idaho men's golf team took advantage of favorable first-round round conditions and is in second after the opening 18 holes of the Western Athletic Conference Championship Golf Tournament.

Aaron Cockerill is at six-under and in second after leading the Vandals to a first-day total 274. Right behind is Ryan Porch, who is tied for third with a 67. Also with under-par rounds are Jared du Toit (70 and tied for sixth) and Rylee Iacolucci 971 and tied for 11th). At even-par 72 is Sean McMullen, who is tied for 19th.

"It was a good day for the Vandals," coach John Means said. "They played well. The conditions were not very difficult and it was a beautiful day. You could score if you hit the ball well."

The Vandals, up at 4:30 a.m. for a 6:30 a.m. tee time, are just two strokes behind first-day leader New Mexico State, which opened with a 272 behind the eight-under effort of Kenneth Fadke, Fadke is the first-day leader at 64.
