MOSCOW, Idaho – The first two-a-day practices of the season were Monday with the Vandal taking to the outdoor SprinTurf in the morning then to the indoors of the Kibbie Dome in the afternoon.

It was day to improve from Saturday’s scrimmage and start to focus on the nuances that make or break a play. Priority number one, however, has not changed: the Vandals need to play with relentless energy and passion.

“We need to take the field every single time, every single chance we get, to get better and improve and play with great passion,” coach Paul Petrino said as Idaho headed into the second week of fall camp with its opener at Florida in 20 days.

In reflecting on last Saturday’s scrimmage, he noted the vast improvement in the two areas he most wanted to see it.

“The two groups that all along need to improve have shown improvement almost every single day,” he said of the offensive line and the secondary.

As for the smoke from regional forest fires that hung over the field Monday morning, transfer linebacker Irving Steele said it wasn’t a bother. Instead, he said with a grin, “It’s blocking the sun.”

The Vandals practice at 9 a.m. Tuesday before 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. sessions Wednesday.
