Applying to Graduate
The Difference Between Graduation and Commencement
- Graduation refers to actually receiving a degree from the University of Idaho once you have satisfied all requirements. Graduation certification begins after final semester grades are posted and continues until diplomas are printed and mailed the sixth week after the end of the semester.
- Commencement is a ceremony and opportunity for students, families, friends and the University of Idaho community to celebrate their academic accomplishments. Participation in the ceremony does not mean you have graduated as you will not receive your diploma or degree on that day.
When To Apply For Graduation
Before applying to graduate, check your degree audit and meet with your academic advisor and ensure that any outstanding course work issues will be met. The application should be filed during the semester prior to the semester of graduation, preferably during the advising period for your final semester.
