DENVER – For the
third time this season, the Western Athletic Conference honored University of
Idaho sophomore Hannah Kiser as its Verizon Women’s Cross Country Athlete of
the Week.
The second-year Vandal from Wenatchee, Wash. (Wenatchee HS)
earned the honor after cruising to a big win last Saturday at the Santa Clara
Bronco Invitational. She was the only competitor in field of 175 to finish the
race under 17 minutes and won by a 12-second margin over the nearest collegiate
runner.
Through four meets this season, Kiser remains undefeated
against collegiate competition, despite the fact that Idaho has faced
regionally-ranked teams in every race and nationally-ranked teams twice. On
Saturday, Kiser led the Vandal women to a fourth-place team finish out of the
21 schools in attendance with a time of 16:55.3 on the 5000m course.
With the regular-season portion of the schedule now behind,
Kiser and the Vandal women will shift their focus to the WAC Championships,
where they’ll look to defend their team crown at Honolulu, Hawai`i, on
Saturday, Oct. 29.
