|Walker earns all-region honor|
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Idaho sophomore outside hitter Allison Walker earned all-West Region honorable mention honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, the AVCA announced Tuesday.
Walker was a first-team all-Western Athletic Conference and WAC all-tournament team selection in 2011. She was a three-time WAC Player of the Week in 2011 as well, the most of any player in the league. Walker also earned all-tournament team honors in two of Idaho's three preseason tournaments.
Walker's 4.31 kills per game led the WAC in league matches and her 4.24 kills per game overall ranked second in the WAC and 10th in a single season in Idaho history. She averaged 4.64 points per game, ranking second in the WAC. She had 13 double-doubles on the season, including a streak of eight straight helping Idaho go 6-2 in that stretch.
Walker also averaged 2.62 digs per game, ranking second on the team. She had six matches with 20 or more kills and hit over .300 on eight occasions with a minimum of 10 kills in those matches. In nine matches against regionally ranked opponents, Walker averaged 3.97 kills, 2.26 digs, 0.65 blocks and 4.39 points per game while hitting .189.
Only three sophomores, including Walker, were represented on the all-West Region team, which includes 14 all-region selections and six honorable mentions. Hawai'i's Kanani Danielson, Emily Hartong and Brittany Hewitt (HM) and New Mexico State's Jennah DeVries, Kelsey Brennan (HM) and Meredith Hays (West Region Freshman of the Year) also earned all-West Region honors from the WAC. The West Region features all Big West, Mountain West and WAC teams, in addition to Central Arkansas, Seattle University and Utah Valley.
