SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Another day, another title and three more school records for the University of Idaho swimming and diving team at the Western Athletic Conference Championship Meet.

Sophomore Rachel Millet won her second event of the meet with her school record 200 freestyle. She clipped more than a full second off her own record as she finished in 1:47.89 Friday evening.

Her effort was just one highlight for the Vandals, who are fourth overall with 281 points and in the midst of their best championship meet in the WAC. San Jose State leads the competition at 503 with Northern Arizona at 444 and Denver at 414.5.

“We had a great day. It was awesome,” coach Mark Sowa said. “We had some really good swims all the way around; a ton of good swims. It was a total team effort.”

The Vandals also turned in school records in the 100 butterfly – by freshman Jamie Sterbis with a 55.11 (good enough for fifth), and the 400 medley relay with Janelle Stacy, Kelsie Saxe, Millet and Erica Anderson clocked in 3:44.62.

Adding the vital points to  keep the Vandals on track to a strong finish were Stacy’s ninth-place to go with Sterbis’ fifth in the 100 fly; Erica Anderson taking fifth, Saxe adding a 12^th and Laura Griffing adding a 14^th in the 100 breast; Stacy finishing 11^th in the 100 back, and Lyndsay Williams taking ninth in the 400 individual medley.

“This is a team that has grown and really learned to support each other,” Sowa said. “When they can feed off of each other’s successes it becomes a heck of a lot easier.”

The meet concludes Saturday.
