|Vandals Win at GCU|
The Idaho Swim and Dive team traveled to Grand Canyon University for their meet Friday and came out with a win. The Vandals raced very well and put up an impressive score of 153 against Grand Canyon’s 108.
“As always, it is nice to get a win against a conference opponent,” Coach Mark Sowa said. “We knew that we would face some challenges racing a very good team but we continue to talk about embracing challenges and learning from them. This was a nice step.”
Junior, Rachel Millet, led the charge by winning all of her events. The freshmen put up another great performance as well with Taylor Strachan winning the 100 backstroke (59.31), Madison Brewer winning the 200 backstroke (2:09.22), and Hannah Stahmer winning the 500 free (5:06.07). The Vandals raced well in the pool but Coach Sowa says that there is room to improve.
“I felt like some of our times did not reflect how well we raced in spots. However, there are still so many places where we can continue to improve. We are a work in progress but this was definitely progress."
The Vandals will travel to Flagstaff, Ariz for another meet today against Northern Arizona, another conference opponent.
"We are excited to go up to 7500 feet tomorrow and race a very prepared Northern Arizona team,” Sowa said. “It is a tight turn around but it should be a lot of fun.”
