University of Idaho senior diver Paige Hunt finished 13th in the one-meter event at the Zone E Championships at the Air Force Academy.

Hunt qualified for the final six dives in 18th position and used strong effort in her final six dives to climb to 13th – the best diving finish by at Vandal in the one-meter event at the Zone Meet. Hunt had 253.95 after her first six dives then added another 274.20 in her final six for a total 528.15. Haley Ishimatsu of USC won the event with a 580.20.

Mairin Jameson, the Vandals’ other senior at the meet, struggled with her first dive and missed making the final 18 by just 10 points. She had a total for her six dives of 243.35.

“Paige dove strong all day and only gave up minor points,” Vandals diving coach Kelly Gufford said. “She qualified into finals in the last spot of 18 and dove exceptionally well in finals. She made up points and finished strong in 13th.

“Mairin dove well overall but gave up some points on her first dive. She missed making the finals by only 10 points. This is a tight pack of competitors so even a small error gives up a lot of places.”

Competition in the zone meet continues with the 3-meter event Friday and the platform on Saturday.
