MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Jamie Sterbis has been at the University of Minnesota for swim meets many times. But that didn't prevent her from feeling a sense of awe and wonder when she checking into the venue this week. Swimming in the NCAA Championships can do that to someone.

"Being here is relieving and exciting," said Sterbis, who will be swimming in the 100 and 200 butterfly events. "Relieving because this is the culmination of a year of hard work. Exciting because I'm among some extremely fast competitors."

Sterbis, the Western Athletic Conference champion in both races, qualified for the national meet with a 54.29 in the 100 fly and a 1:56.77 in the 200 fly. Her time in the 100 ranks 63rd among the qualifiers, with her 200 time 38th. She is the lone WAC swimmer to reach the elite meet.

The meet begins Thursday and concludes Saturday. Live results are available at
