University of Idaho sophomore Jamie Sterbis had the second-best 100 butterfly time of her career in the preliminary rounds of the event at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota.

While it wasn't good enough for her to advance in the 100 fly, having one NCAA race in her system should help as she heads into Saturday's 200 fly - her specialty.

"This was a really good start to Jamie's meet," coach Mark Sowa said. "She has never been that fast in prelims and has only been under 55 once before.

"Our focus has always been the 200 so we were really happy with how she maintained speed, a good indicator that tomorrow should be good. We were extremely pleased with her poise and now that she has a swim under her belt we should be good."
