|ESPNU to televise women's basketball game|
DENVER - The Western Athletic Conference announced Wednesday that ESPNU will broadcast four conference women's basketball games during the 2009-10 season, including one featuring Idaho and Louisiana Tech.
"I think it validates what we did last year and the shows direction our program is going," Idaho head coach Jon Newlee said. "Being chosen as one of the few teams to get on a national telecast is a great honor and a great thing for our program."
Idaho's March 3 home game against the Lady Techsters at Cowan Spectrum will mark the first time that the Vandal women have hosted or played in a nationally-televised contest.
Three of the four broadcast games will be regular-season contests, while the fourth will be the championship game of the WAC Tournament. ESPNU will also broadcast Louisiana Tech at Nevada on Jan. 26 and Boise State at Fresno State on Jan. 27, in addition to the WAC Tournament Championship Game on March 13.
The tip-off time of the Idaho-Louisiana Tech game has been changed to 8 p.m. (PST) to accommodate the broadcast.
"Hopefully, we just pack the place and sell it out," Newlee said. "We need to do what the football team did when they got on TV. Everybody really rose to the occasion and showed up and supported them, so hopefully we get the same response and people can see what we're all about here at the University of Idaho."
