MOSCOW, Idaho - The University of Idaho men's golf team welcomes two players from Minnesota who will join the Vandals this fall after signing letters of agreement this week.

Making the trek west are Mark Giorgi, who, as the NCAA Division III Freshman of the Year in 2010 is transferring from Minnesota's St. John's University, and high schooler Dylan Baker, one of the state's top junior golfers who graduates from Eden Prairie High School this spring.

"Mark is a solid ball striker with great distance and accuracy," coach John Means said. "He has proven himself at every level he has played and has the confidence and work ethic to continue that success at the Division I level.

"He also is a great team leader and student. He is a welcome addition to the Vandal golf team."

In addition to his success at St. John's, Giorgi, a native of Red Wing, Minn., was a three-time all-state selection and played on the state's winning high school team his senior year. He also was the 2009 Minnesota Junior Player of the Year.

Baker has similar playing credentials and successes at the high school and junior golf level and, Means said, has the ability to have a tremendous impact on Vandal golf once he adjusts to the Division I level.

"Dylan is a great competitor and has a tremendous work ethic and desire to learn," Means said. "He is long off the tee but does lack experience. He'll make up for that lack of collegiate experience with his motivation, dedication and desire to improve."

Baker as an all-state selection as a junior and is the third-ranked junior in Minnesota. He qualified for the USGA Junior Amateur last year.
