MOSCOW, Idaho - Be brave. Be bold. Be silver and gold. That's the mantra on the 2012-13 Vandal Game Day T-shirt, designed my Matt Kurz, Idaho alumnus and current University of Idaho Greek Advisor.
"I've submitted a design each year since I've worked and went to school here," said Kurz, who earned his master's degree in 2011. "The difference this year is I really wanted to do something with a wider appeal that used the brand, and incorporate something new that would stand out. I wanted to put something in there that would make me feel connected to the university. That's where Be brave. Be bold. Be silver and gold came from."
A selection committee with representatives from the Office of Alumni Relations, Student Alumni Relations Board, VandalStore, Vandal Athletics Department and Creative Services whittled fan submissions for Game Day T-shirt contest to a few finalists. The final designs were then voted on by campus celebrity panel including, University President Duane Nellis, Athletics Director Rob Spear, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and ASUI President Samantha Perez, among others.
Kurz found out his design won on his birthday when he received a phone call from Spear at his home.
"I was so stoked," Kurz said. "I was really excited and really glad that the celebrity panel like what I had made. I just love the buzz around it. At the end of the day, no matter where you live, what club or organization you're in, we're all Vandals. We all know what it's like to go to the dome and catch a game. It's just the energy that brings the fans together and I think that's the most important thing."
The 2012-13 Official Game Day T-shirt will be revealed, and available for sale, at 3:30 p.m. April 20 at the VandalStore Plaza in Moscow then announced at the Silver and Gold Scrimmage in the Kibbie Dome at 6 p.m. The shirt will be sold throughout the 2012-13 year at both VandalStore locations as the official Game Day T-shirt of 2012-13 for all Vandal athletic teams.
