DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Kayla Mortellaro might have given herself a scare on her first hole of her final round of the LPGA Tour qualifying tournament but making the six-foot comeback putt ended up putting her on track to earning her playing card for the 2013 season.

"It's kind of shocking," said Mortellaro in an interview with as she learned she'd finished 11th in the qualifying tournament and was bound for the LPGA. "I wasn't nervous. I was just really focused on that cliche of wanting to take just one shot at a time."

Mortellaro, who was tied for 39th heading into Sunday's final round, leapt all the way to a tie for 11th with her closing-round 67. She opened the five-day qualifier iwth a 79 before coming back with two 69s before Saturday's 72.

"I just tried to keep patient and take the shots as they came," she said of her bogey-free round. She said she approached the final 18 with the intent to "just go out there and give it everything I have and see what happens."

Her 90-hole total 356 was four-under. Rebecca Lee-Bentham of Toronto and Moriya Jutanugarn of Bangkok tied for the tournament title at 13-under 347.
