Mortellaro moves into tie for second

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - University of Idaho junior Kayla Mortellaro moved into a tie for second at the UNLV Rebel Spring Invitational after a second-round 69. The Vandals, however, had some struggles and fired a collective 314 in dropping into a tie for 11th.

Mortellaro started her round with a bogey but carved out four birdies during the remaining holes to post her 69 to go with an opening 71 for a 36-hole 140 (four-under par). Teo Poplawski, who was fourth after the opening 18 holes, had a second-round 78 to drop into a tie for 17th at three-over 147. Also for the Vandals, Gracie Schory had an 81 and is at 161 and tied for 65th, Rachel Choi had an 86 and is tied for 73rd at 163, and Julia Hitchins had an 87 and is 83 at 172. Playing as an individual, Allyssa Nilsson had back-to-back 90s for a 180 and a tie for 84th.

Pepperdine moved into the team lead with a second-day 278 and a 36-hole 563. BYU's Kelsey Vines maintained the individual lead with a 70 for a two-day 136.

The tournament concludes Wednesday.
