Idaho's Matt Rawitzer and Kayla Mortellaro were chosen Verizon Western Athletic Conference Golfers of the Week for March 14-20.
Rawitzer, a sophomore from Bellingham, Wash. (Squalicum HS), finished in a tie for third at the Jackrabbit Invitational at Primm, Nev. Rawitzer was 12-under par for the three rounds with a total of 204 (67-67-70). He was one of just two players in the field to shoot in the 60s during the first two rounds. As a team, Idaho finished in second place, one stroke behind tournament winner Missouri. It is the first time in his career that Rawitzer has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.
Mortellaro, a junior from Phoenix, Ariz. (Mesa Distance Learning), posted a third-place finish for the second consecutive week with a 3-over par 219 (72-73-74) at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Honolulu. She was four strokes back of the winner and six strokes better than the next best WAC player as a total of five WAC schools competed in the 18-team field. It is the 10th time in her career that Mortellaro has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award. She is the eighth-ranked amateur in the world this week.
