MESA, Ariz. - University of Idaho junior Kayla Mortellaro won the Western Athletic Conference Championship with a one-under par 212 over the Longbow Golf Club course.
Mortellaro wrapped up the 54-hole tournament with a one-over 72 to recover from a one-stroke deficit heading into the final round. Her final round was an up-and-down one with four birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey.
She repeated as the Western Athletic Conference's Player of the Year and is joined on the all-conference first team by fellow junior Teo Poplawski. The pair entered the tournament as the one-two golfers in the league. Poplawski finished 27th at the tournament with a 238, while freshman Rachel finished 13th after a closing round 75 gave her a 227 for the tournament.
Sophomore Allysson Nilsson finished in a tie for 32nd at 249 and junior Gracie Schory was 34th at 249.
San Jose State won the team title with an 884; the Vandals were sixth at 926.
