ERIE, Colo. - University of Idaho senior Kayla Mortellaro battled wind, chilly temperatures, the long Colorado National Golf Course and its treacherous greens en route to a three-over 75 during the second round of the NCAA West Regional Golf Tournament.

Mortellaro, who started on the 10th hole, had three bogeys on the back nine and went to four-over after a bogey at five before coming back to three over when she birdied the 520-yard, par-5 seventh.

Mortellaro, with a 36-hole total 148, is nine off the pace of second-round leader Catherine O'Donnell of North Carolina, who had rounds of 70-69 for a 139. More importantly, she is in the thick of the chase for a berth in the NCAA Championship Tournament. Among the players there as individuals and not as part of a team, Amy Anderson of North Dakota State is at 146 and Maggie Yuan of BYU is at 147. The top two of the six individuals advance to the NCAA tournament.
