Kayla Mortellaro, who graduated in May from the University of Idaho, and Renee Skidmore, a 2008 graduate, surviving the first cut of the LPGA Qualifying School after starting with two strong rounds at LPGA International at Dayton Beach, Fla., first phase qualifying event.

Mortellaro, the most successful golfer in school history, had rounds of 71-72 for a 36-hole one-under 143 to finish in a tie for 16th in the field of 240 players. Skidmore was tied for 37th after shooting 73-72. They play 36 more holes for the opportunity to advance too the next stage of the qualifying school, which is Oct. 9-12 at the Plantation Golf and Country Club at Venice, Fla.

The top 70 players from that tournament advance to the third stage, which will determine which players earn their cards to play on the LPGA Tour in 2013.
