|Vandals third at Price's|
LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The University of Idaho women's golf team finished third at the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate after a final-round 296 for an 883 for the 54 holes.
Kaitlyn Oster had rounds of 73-71-72 to finish at even par 216 and in second place to lead the Vandals. Joining Oster among the leaders was Rachel Choi, who tied for fifth with rounds of 73-74-71 for a two-over 218. Leilanie Kim notched a top-20 finish with her tie for 18th at seven-over 223. Also for the Vandals, Cassie McKinley tied for 36th at 227 and Kristin Strankman tied for 58th at 232.
"We played well," coach Lisa Johnson said. "The team really fought hard; they gave 100 percent all week. They showed a lot of fight and determination."
Kansas won the tournament at 871 with Washington State second at 881. Idaho's 883 was third with Colorado State fourth at 891.
Johnson said her team's new-found confidence in its short game was the difference maker.
"We were a very good ball-striking team," Johnson said. "We've been working on our short game and they were confident in using their new shorts in a competitive round."
