|Oster records ace|
LAS CRUCES, N.M. - University of Idaho junior Kaitlyn Oster experienced the highs and lows of golf but the high - a hole in one, could offset any low. Especially when it helped lead the Vandals to a tie for the low round of the tournament at the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate at New Mexico State University.
Oster aced the 160-yard, par-3 11 hole but en route to her second-day 72 she also had to play a lost ball and an out-of- bounds.
"She played great," said coach Lisa Johnson of Oster's ability to maintain focus, which pushed her into a tie for second with 18 holes to play.
Johnson said the Vandals, throughout the lineup, played steady and strong. After opening the tournament with a 304 Monday, they trimmed 17 strokes off that score for a 287, which matched UC Irvine for the best round of the tournament.
Irvine leads the tournament with a 577 with Portland State second at 579, Nevada third at 584 and the Vandals tied with Cincinnati for fourth at 591 in the 14-team field.
Also for Idaho, Cassie McKinley is tied for 11th at 146, Leilanie Kim is tied for 29th at 150, Amy Hasenoehrl is tied for 52nd at 155 and Kristin Strankman is tied for 57th with a 156.
