DENVER - The Western Athletic Conference announced on Tuesday that Idaho junior Josh Dalton earned the Verizon Wireless Track Athlete of the Week award for the week of Mar. 22-28.

Dalton (Deary, Idaho/Deary HS) ran a conference-leading time of 1:51.67 in the 800m at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday to place 15th out of 49 competitors in the event. The time is also the second-fastest of his outdoor career.

The reigning WAC outdoor 800m champion is now ranked 20th in the West Region and 38th in the NCAA in the event. The honor is the first of Dalton's career. It is the first of the outdoor season for the Vandals and the sixth overall this year for Idaho track and field athletes.

Dalton and the rest of the Vandal track and field team will be in action this weekend at the Texas Relays (Austin, Texas) and Sam Adams Classic (Spokane, Wash.).
